MODALISBOA FW19 – WORKSTATION

MODALISBOA INSIGHT. More than interpretation, an introspection. More than a glimmer, thinking. More than an invitation, a call.

What we see – is it really what it is?

The fashion that we see in the mirror often does not reflect solely the image of what is at sight. Many times that reflection can be hiding a deeper artistic reality that is not noticeable at first sight, or is only rather noticeable to whom intends to interpret the fashion that is alive nowadays and the challenges that it brings to us. But those are the challenges that inspire our designers every year, prompt our talents and catalyse our fashion. Challenges that emerge in a rapidly changing world, challenges mooted by the desire to question and rethink the image expressed by the fashion sphere.

The fashion that is produced today continues to be the outcome of this ability of the introspection to always imply action. An act of courage that takes the designers and fashion agents to be nonconformists, irreverent and rebellious towards the world that surrounds them.

During March 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, ModaLisboa wanted to keep looking inside fashion, understand what kind of production there is, what sort of consumers we are, which new generations they will have, which legacy they will leave behind when moving forward.

INSIGHT because that introspection inspires all of us; it compels us to react, to hold on to the fashion dynamics in everlasting movement, working with the new languages called by the modern-day world – be it through sustainable production, synthetic urgency or the arise of new publics and consumption practices. We want to understand which trends are going to emerge, which models are going to be created, which paradigm is going to be established, which collections are going to stand out and especially who are we going to reach.

The WORKSTATION platform represents a comprehensive, eclectic and contemporary vision of what is experienced during the many MODALISBOA events.

The WORKSTATION presents the photographic works of Maria Martins, Mariana Breia and Rodrigo Caetano Alves, the illustrations of Catarina Guedes, Catarina Serra and Perky Mary, and the collections of António Castro, Cristina Real, David Pereira and Filipe Augusto.

Wish you were here.

A voyage of a flâneuse and a flâneur in Japan.

Experiment 3 is directed to flâneuses and flâneurs. It encourages the spirit of wonder, eccentric role-play and the constant obser- vation of society. These characters are not just street strollers but they become important participants in society. They are the painter and at the same time the painting.

Trail Map is an interpretation of the luxurious universe in wintry environments captured by the lens of Slim Aarons, as well as the complexity of the maps present in the ski resorts – the labyrinthine alignment of the itinerary of each attraction.

It’s a temporary landmark that ends in the 80’s, focusing on family trips to the Resorts. It is not focused only on the natural environment, but also in the temporary imposition of a city atmosphere  mixing several elements, showing all the lightness of the iciest environment and the stillness that it conveys. Trail Map portrays a certain elite in moments of leisure the interaction between a group of people in periods of joy, pure fun and relaxation. Their jokes and their snow games, enjoying the uniqueness of this time.

David Pereira FALL/WINTER 2019

Silhouettes involving androgynous beings with the forms of water fluctuations and biological rhythms influenced by the Moon. Colors that bring us, on one hand, to darkness and light, and, on the other hand, to death and life.

The androgynous beings are involved in materials that adapt to be with the receptivity that the Moon has, revealing a mysterious and phlegmatic aura of dream and illusion, because the Moon does not show itself as it is, revealing us, only, its effect. This collection, due to natural principles, represents, just like the different phases of the Moon, the equilibrium by itself: birth, mutation, death and the invisible.ù

Filipe Augusto FALL/WINTER 2019

”From 8 to 8 comes the one who looks best on Sunday mass. Sunday suit, with a notable crease which follows the sound of elevated bronze.”
