The 12th edition of Feeric Fashion Week turned Sibiu again into the world’s capital of creative fashion. Between 17 and 21 July, designers from all corners of the world presented their new collections in unconventional spaces in the city and in Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania.
Fashion shows began at the shadow of the most representative symbol of Sibiu, the Tower of the Council. Silvia Şerban presented to the public the Autumn-Winter 2019 collection called “DoubleYou”. Silvia Serban believes that every piece of clothing she imagines can contribute to the well-being of the wearer. For more than two decades, Silvia Serban brand stood out proposing outfits that have redefined style and reinterpreted the notion of clothing, generating a singularity, not just contemporary, but also timeless. Silvia Serban’s mission is to design styles that will never expire, not just because you attach to them and develop various incurable addictions, but because you always rediscover them, again and again. In Silvia’s work and approach there has always been a sensitivity and concern about our resource-drained world, leading the creative process to producing multifunctional clothes, from recyclable materials, or with zero material loss. Whether they are minimalist or with postmodern details, most of the clothes Silvia Serban creates have at least two ways to be worn, they are versatile and original.
Fall-Winter 2019-2020: “DoubleYou”
Silvia Serban’s Autumn-Winter 2019 collection called ‘’DoubleYou’’ is about the woman in her completeness.
She has the wisdom – Wise Woman – and she is using it to do miracles – Wonder Woman – is the one who travels all over the world and is present through her every cell – World’s Woman – the woman who ask herself a lot of questions and who gets hurt sometimes like any other hero during his journey – Wounded Woman. Whether she is from Europe, South America or Asia, she is the woman who is aware that the happiness and the self fulfilment are the target, the ultimate goal of each marketing or communication strategy, kipping a contemporary way of speaking. Summing all of these ”DoubleYou” is a collection for the authentic woman, as any woman in her essence, who goes through personal transformation and accepts others as they are, who knows how to create a world of love and respect, who supports her partner in achieving his goals and who encourages her children in doing anything that brings them happiness. Reviewing different ethnic styles of several cultures, ”DoubleYou” is a tribute to the real goddesses, earthly women who have sustained and wisely sustain life and community. These styles, however, have the same common denominator of all collections signed by Silvia Serban: an invitation to discover, to create new shapes and functions, the sustainability expressed through modularity. There are pieces where the material losses were zero and is also a monitoring of the work process in both consumption and reuse. The stored in left-overs from previous sewing processes have been used for original pieces or to decorate others in the spirit of the collection.
Texture contrast has a dramatic effect, ranging from veil transparency to the fur volume. Tulle, as extremely affordable fabric, has gone through various manipulations in order to create unexpected volumes and ennobles with lace, rhinestones or metallic parts.
The designs combine their elements, they deconstruct in order to reconstruct meaningful, original structures that are valued according to different types of silhouettes, different moments or emotions. So does the Wise Woman, she understands that the society we live in appreciates knowledge only that she is able to pass it through her heart and thus she gains the grace of wisdom.
