Samatha, your journey as a designer and entrepreneur is fascinating. Can you walk us through your personal experiences that led to the founding of Fioletowy Studio and how your Indian heritage and global experiences have woven into the brand’s identity? How has your background shaped the core values of the studio?
From a young age, I also dreamed of experiencing the world beyond India. I was fascinated by England, its rich culture, and its fashion scene. That dream came true when I had the opportunity to study in the UK. It was a transformative experience that opened my eyes to the vast and diverse world of fashion.A particularly transformative moment was my visit to a fashion museum in Bath, which was an eye-opener that left an indelible mark on my love for fashion and art. My travels across Europe and visits to countries like Japan, the US, and New Zealand further deepened my appreciation for global style and cultural nuances.
Upon returning to India, I met my business partner, and together we decided to launch a clothing business. Although my academic background is in engineering and business rather than fashion, this venture marked the beginning of my journey in the industry—and it certainly hasn’t been an easy path. Each step has been a valuable learning experience that continues to shape my passion for fashion.

Fioletowy Studio is celebrated for its ability to merge diverse cultural influences. How do you approach the process of integrating elements from European refinement, Japanese minimalism, and Indian craftsmanship while ensuring that this fusion tells a cohesive story rather than feeling fragmented? What ethical considerations do you prioritize during this integration?
I believe that our cultures are beautifully intertwined, each one enriching the other. This synergy is at the heart of our designs—they don’t come across as fragmented but rather tell a unified story, adding layers of meaning and depth. Every detail, from fabric selection and garment construction to the overall design, seamlessly comes together. We create with clarity and purpose.
The theme of your Milan collection, “Lamp on a Stand” inspired by Matthew 5:14, speaks to the idea of illumination and guidance. Could you elaborate on how spiritual concepts intersect with your design philosophy and how they influence the narratives you aim to create through your clothing?
I’m a committed follower of Jesus, and my purpose is to shine His light and share the good news of the gospel with the world. The Milan collection was designed to embody this calling—drawing from Matthew 5:14, where we are reminded that we are like a lamp on a stand, meant to shine brightly.Every design is a testament to His truth and hope. Even our future collections would mean nothing if they aren’t infused with God’s presence; without Him at the center, our creative journey loses its meaning. Our work remains anchored in faith, ensuring that every piece not only reflects beauty but also serves as a beacon of His grace and love.

Beauty is often perceived differently across cultures. As a designer who navigates these differing perspectives, how do you define beauty in the context of your work, and how do you ensure that your designs resonate with a global audience while honoring their cultural sensibilities?
We honor every culture because we truly believe that there’s a unique beauty in understanding and celebrating each one’s heritage. When we present our work to a global audience, it not only frees us to experiment creatively but also allows us to introduce something distinctive—one that resonates internationally while staying true to its cultural roots.

Empowering women is a foundational aspect of Fioletowy Studio. Could you share specific initiatives or partnerships you’ve developed that reflect your commitment to women’s empowerment? How do you measure the impact of these initiatives on the women you aim to uplift?
From the very beginning, we envisioned our brand as more than just a creator of beautiful pieces—it was meant to be purposeful, with a deep mission. We asked ourselves, “What can we do, and what should we do?” Women empowerment quickly emerged as our guiding cause. My volunteering experience at a women’s care center during college opened my eyes to the urgent need to support women recovering from abuse and those who are financially vulnerable. Empowering these women has become a core part of our mission, and we are actively working to establish initiatives to make a meaningful impact.
The fashion industry is notoriously fast-paced, yet your creations exude timelessness. What strategies do you employ to balance contemporary trends with enduring artistry in your designs, and why do you believe this is critical for both the brand and its customers?
We’re not focused on keeping up with the fast-paced trends of the world. Instead, our goal is to create heartfelt pieces that are both timeless and enriched with contemporary elements. Every creation is treated as a unique work of art and a wellspring of inspiration. Ultimately, our satisfaction comes from effectively communicating our brand’s essence and connecting with those who truly appreciate art.
