I still remember the dress my mother made for my First Communion. It was made of two layers: a vibrant pink fabric with yellow lace on top. I was completely in love with it. Perhaps that’s where the seed was planted for my creative career.
My parents had an incredible talent for making something out of nothing. Whether it was clothing, decoration, or simply a creative solution to everyday things, they constantly showed that with imagination and resourcefulness, you don’t need much to create something special.
That mindset of inventiveness and embracing limitations as opportunities has deeply influenced the way I approach design. For me, creativity isn’t a luxury—it’s a way of life.
The uniqueness of your pieces is a hallmark of your brand, where you emphasize that there are no fashion twins. In an industry often dominated by mass production, how do you prioritize individuality in your designs, and what processes do you use to ensure each piece tells its own story?
In the past, I tried selling multiple pieces of the same design, and to be honest, it went quite well. But I soon realized that repeating designs came at the expense of my creativity. It felt like I was limiting myself, while it’s actually the experimenting and the search for unexpected combinations that truly drive me.
That’s why I consciously returned to creating exclusive pieces. The way I use materials — mixing colors, incorporating found treasures or repurposed items — naturally leads to something unique. No piece is ever exactly the same, and that’s something I value deeply. Each design tells its own story, shaped by the material and the moment in which it comes to life.
With your diverse background in makeup artistry and interior design, how have those skills enriched your jewelry design process? Can you share any specific techniques or insights from these fields that you’ve successfully integrated into creating your jewelry? Perhaps a moment when your background in one of these areas influenced a specific piece?
With my background in makeup artistry and interior design, I’ve developed a sharp eye for color, shape, and composition. Working with color — seeing subtle nuances, sensing contrasts, and daring to make unconventional combinations — is truly one of my strengths.
Both in makeup and interior design, it’s about harmony and tension: finding balance, but also having the courage to add that one unexpected accent. I bring that same approach into my jewelry designs. My professional background gives me the confidence to work intuitively with color and form, and that’s something you can see in every piece I create.
Your commitment to creating original, handmade pieces rather than conforming to the allure of mass production is admirable. Could you explain your motivation behind this decision? What emotional or artistic satisfaction do you derive from crafting items that embody your personal touch?
For me, creating original, handmade pieces is almost a necessity — I simply don’t feel fulfilled when I have to do the same thing for too long. Repetition makes me restless, and I’ve noticed it quite literally stifles my creativity.
Working on unique designs keeps me sharp and inspired. As soon as I’ve finished one new piece, I immediately feel the urge to start on the next. Each unique piece I create fuels my desire to make something different from what I’ve done before.That constant sense of renewal — the process of discovering and shaping something new — is my greatest source of artistic fulfillment.
The journey from concept to creation is often where the magic happens. Can you take us through your design process? What steps do you follow to bring a new idea to life, and how do you handle challenges that arise during the creative process? Do you have any rituals or environments that help foster your creativity?
My design process is very organic – I rarely work from a fixed plan or a fully developed design on paper. Most of the time, a piece of jewelry comes to life gradually. I start with an idea, a feeling, or a certain combination of materials, and from there, I let the process guide me. Improvisation plays a big role in this. Not knowing exactly where it’s going is what keeps me open to surprises and unexpected turns in the design. That’s what makes it exciting and alive for me.
What inspires me immensely is traveling. New environments, colors, cultures, and forms always give me a fresh perspective and nourish my creativity. I often come home with my head full of ideas – sometimes literally from what I’ve seen or gathered along the way, but often just from breaking free of the daily routine. I then carry that freedom into my work.
Keeping your designs innovative and fresh can be a challenge, especially in such a dynamic industry. What strategies or sources of inspiration do you seek out to remain on the cutting edge of creativity? Are there specific artists, movements, or even everyday experiences that ignite your imagination?
My mind never really stops when it comes to creativity – ideas keep flowing constantly. To keep my designs fresh and innovative, I love drawing inspiration from various art forms and disciplines. Fashion designers like Iris van Herpen fascinate me immensely; her innovative shapes and use of materials are truly inspiring. But I also continue to find inspiration in great 20th-century artists like Matisse and Picasso – especially their use of color, freedom in form, and breaking away from rules.
Additionally, my work environment plays a significant role. My studio is located in a creative hub filled with other artistic disciplines, from visual arts to design and craftsmanship. This cross-pollination is incredibly stimulating. Simply being surrounded by other forms of art every day keeps my perspective open and my ideas alive.
Finally, many aspiring designers often struggle to carve out their own identities in a world where trends frequently overshadow originality. What advice would you offer to those who wish to stay true to themselves while navigating the pressures of the fashion world? Can you share any personal experiences that shaped your own path?
Having already gone through various careers and experiences, and being a bit older now, I stand more firmly in my shoes. My identity as a designer is now truly rooted. I no longer let trends or outside opinions easily throw me off course – I know what suits me and what I stand for.
My advice to aspiring designers is: if you’re passionate about your own designs, keep believing in them. That passion and conviction will be reflected in your work, and you’ll radiate it to the world. Of course, it’s important to keep an eye on what’s happening in the fashion world, but don’t let that dictate your direction. Originality comes from within – dare to trust it, even if the path isn’t completely clear yet. It’s that personal touch that makes your work unique.
At the same time, it’s important to remain open to your surroundings and to other people. There’s so much to learn from others – through conversations, collaborations, or simply by observing closely. That open mindset can surprise you, inspire you, and enrich your own vision, without losing yourself in the process.
