MASTABACCANI was founded by Ana Sîrbu in 2025, in Bucharest, Romania.
“MASTABACCANI draws inspiration from the multifaceted nature of humanity — an ongoing exploration of the human being in all its forms. From the innocence of birth, through the naïve wonder of early stages, to the ever-growing desire for evolution, self-discovery, and transcendence. At its core, it is a tribute to our capacity for reinvention, and above all, to love.”
The name “MASTABA” which means base of a pyramid, combines the maiden name of Ana’s mother—“MASTACAN”, her mother being the main source of inspiration. MASTABACCANI creates for those who will succeed or have already succeeded in building their own pyramid starting from the base. Ana’s roots leave an imprint on the visual expression, thus the aesthetic direction is complex, embracing an eclectic style.

How do you balance growth and maintaining authenticity in today’s fast moving fashion?
I believe that growth can also come from choosing to do things at your own pace. I like to challenge myself and step into situations that help me grow, but only when they align with my vision and values. That’s how I choose to grow while staying authentic.
What’s one thing you wish people understood about sustainable, slow fashion?
I wish people understood the meticulous process behind each piece, the good and fair working conditions in which the garments are made, and the importance of an aesthetic that is meant to last beyond seasons. Slow, sustainable fashion is not just about materials, but about intention, care, and respect for time, people, and craft.
What has been the most surprising lesson since launching your brand?
The most surprising lesson I’ve learned is that things happen when you are truly ready to receive them.
Fashion often reflects culture. How would you describe the cultural influences in your work?
My work is deeply influenced by a mix of introspection, femininity, and a subtle sense of mysticism. There is a strong focus on form, curved lines, and emotional expression, often inspired by the relationship between the body, the universe, and inner transformation. I draw from a timeless, almost cosmic aesthetic rather than from specific trends or geographical references.

When people hear the name MASTABACCANI for the first time, what do you hope they don’t assume?
I hope they don’t assume it needs to be immediately understood or labeled. The name, like the brand, reveals itself in time.
If we spoke again in five years, what would you hope is still the same?
My enthusiasm for fashion and my burning desire to create.
What’s your relationship with deadlines?
I’m very detail-oriented and a perfectionist by nature, so punctuality matters a lot to me. I take deadlines seriously, both my own and those of the people I work with.
What responsibilities do independent designers have that large houses can afford to ignore?
Independent designers carry a responsibility to remain honest, to their values, to their clients, and to the people involved in the production process. Unlike large fashion houses, we can’t hide behind scale or systems. Every decision feels personal, and accountability is unavoidable.
Who believed in you early on ,maybe before you fully believed in yourself?
My husband, Mihai, for whom I thank God every day for being in my life.
Which piece are you most emotionally attached and why?
The dress developed around that AURA, which I later explored in several forms. It’s very special to me, it carries influences from the planet Saturn and belongs to my first collection, The Egg, where curved lines were central. I see it as the signature of the brand.
What part makes you fall in love with fashion all over again?
The emotions I feel when I look at garments, when I truly understand a concept, and when I witness beauty being created out of nothing.
What woman do you hope finds MASTABACCANI next?
An emotionally mature woman, intelligent and kind, yet grounded in her self-respect.
