RED-EYE is intended to give voice to a community of innovators that envision concepts of extended worlds and future sustainable lifestyles.

TO THE METAVERSE AND BACK.  RED-EYE is the voice of a new language of artists and creators that support an open metaverse, where anyone can contribute to its value of freedom, inclusivity and envision an immersive web of experiential dimensions.  RED-EYE is intended to give voice to a community of innovators that envision concepts of extended worlds and future sustainable lifestyles.

The metaverse is, and will be, heavily shaped by the arts, with artists representations of metaverses being brought to life through pop culture over the past decade. The metaverse will affect every industry in much the same way that the Internet did in the early 1990s, and it will affect the art world by extension. [Sources: 7] 

Just as with the internet, most of the metaverse will be things that we hop into and out of, not places that we actually inhabit. It is very possible much of the metaverse will be tied inherently with our real-world identities, and we will not be able to see every app, device, and other user that we are interacting or being watched. The metaverse will look much like our current smartphones, essential tools for work and entertainment, but not something most people are going to get lost in. [Sources: 1] To harness the metaverses potential as a three-dimensional, global, connected, immersive, and real-time online space, we will need new ways of connecting the physical world to the experiences provided by augmented reality (VR). As the metaverse continues to evolve, creatives can apply learnings from building the original World Wide Web, and take advantage of all that the digital realm offers that the physical one does not.

In a metaverse, this could all reside in one cooperative, digital location, where creatives could broadcast their corresponding art to those who could remix it however many times they wanted, a seamless shift between artists and consumers. The metaverse can be designed to provide context and experiences that allow and encourage collaboration, connection, content mastery, creative thought, creative innovation, and trust. If a metaverse is meant to provide shared virtual spaces for people to interact, communicate, express, and translate activities from the physical world, then we must design the metaverse with people in mind. Finally, we challenge those creating education products for the metaverse to work collaboratively with educators and academics to make sure students are experiencing actual social interactions between humans while traversing virtual spaces, and that a true focus is placed on diversity of representations and access in what is created.

At the forefront of this technological revolution, it is crucial for artists, designers, and cultural institutions to engage and drive conversations that could help the metaverse be more inclusive and equitable, with a tapestry of human experiences embedded into the DNA of the metaverse. The growth of this new medium is an opportunity for brands to employ, empower, listen, and learn from a diverse creative population. [Sources: 5, 6, 7] 

As in Web 2.0, new arts, arts exhibitions, and practices involving arts funding will all be transformed by the metaverse in glorious places both known and unknown, but older arts practices (and economies) will not be completely replaced. The art community can, and should, continue to have a voice in the way that the metaverse is designed and built. Obstacles are inevitable, and artists will always be faced with new challenges, particularly entering a new realm of creation, but hopefully more artists might feel empowered to capitalize on what the metaverse has to offer. We at RED-EYE believe that we are at the edge of a huge creative revolution where, everything becomes canvas and creatives will experience new visual languages while learning curves as they navigate how to blend the physical and digital worlds.
